Fear and accompany

——Monster under the bed

We are always caught in a kind of circular cycle, where images of the past keep repeating and repeating, over and over again. The interweaving and fusion of multiple memories distorts and reconstructs the original story of memory, and we gradually become unable to distinguish exactly what the original story was like. The things that are most unforgettable to us remain clear, but also emerge in new chapters led by our emotions that we did not know. We were surprised, pained, regretted, happy, we shaped a Garden of Eden, a playground, a hell for ourselves. Only our truest world is missing. We run away, we map our deepest thoughts onto the passing and carry our illusions with us to complete our lives.

Fear is fear. Like "positive affectivity" such as happiness, it is a part of our emotions. If we exist in the world happily, it is inevitable that we must live with fear.

Therefore, all that matters is not to overcome fear, but to act while feeling fearful.

According to theories of evolutionary psychology, "nighttime fear" is also evolutionarily originated and the root cause of it is the fear of the unknown.

Fear is an emotional experience where living beings attempt to get rid of and evade a sort of scenario but feel powerless.

Causes of fear can be traced back to ancient times of mankind. At that time, human beings are much weaker than other creatures. For the purpose of extending life, some instinctive states are naturally encoded into our DNA. We learn how to avoid the dark, live high up and implement activities in groups to prevent risks in a hostile environment.

Nowadays, these states are still deeply encoded in our DNA.

In the long history of human beings, fear is our life instinct. Thanks to such an instinct, we strive to protect ourselves in confrontation with danger.
As an instinct of mankind, fear signifies that we are worried about the outcomes of something that has taken place and are anxious due to uncertainties of such outcomes. Many people who are young, less experienced and unclear about the result act without respect to the results. As they grow older, experience teaches them to be fearful so that they begin to tread on eggs and make a decision after trade-offs.
Just as said in "L'État de Siège" which was written by Albert Camus, pestilence cannot be separated from mankind; and, it hides in our bodies. The same is true for fear, that is, fear cannot be separated from mankind and it hides in our bodies. In the opinion of Albert Camus, what is important is not to be cured of a disease, but to live with pain.

For us, what we fear is really just fear itself. Only when we face our fears can we seek our own liberation.

Cannot feel you

Physical space itself is inclusive and open, and its interior can accommodate other elements of space, objects, and people. The city we live in is an open space in which we live. There are countless other spaces in this space simultaneously, and these spaces interact with us every moment. We can see the surrounding buildings, touch the solid brick walls, and hear the surrounding sounds. Moreover, what interests me most is the role of sound in our perception of space. We live in a world where there are many voices, and if we close our eyes to feel them, we can still form a vague sense of our surroundings in our brains. But when this spatial relationship is breached, we feel uncomfortable.

Keeping distance brings more significant control over our own space and a guarantee of our sense of security. Moreover, this sense of security directly appears in our psychological feelings.

Our personal space is a kind of defence and protection that our psychology space has built up; it is a "territorial model." On the web, we communicate with invisible digital information, free from the limitations of physical space and physical distance, which makes it more difficult to control the dimensions of the spatial relationships we establish. Our emotions become volatile. Many negative emotions or opinions that are not usually expressed, or even behavioural habits, occur due to the disappearance of physical space distance. It is one of the reasons why cyber-violence is frequent.

The establishment of self-space makes us independent and individualized with each other. However, human nature makes us afraid of being excluded and isolated by the same kind, which leads to our urgent need to become a group with others. A reasonable and comfortable spatial relationship is the key to our integration. Too distant spatial relationships can make our psychology feel lost and lonely, while too close spatial relationships can make our emotions tense and uncomfortable. The different feelings that come with getting along with people in different relationships influence our own, and it is also reflected in the establishment of our spatial relationships. Therefore, while feeling and respecting the spatial relationship dimension that we have established, we should also respect others' spatial relationship dimensions. Maintaining a comfortable and healthy dimension of spatial relationships is an important factor in human interaction.

No one's land

by Zhe Meng, Li Wang, Zihao Lu

Zhe

I've been hovering around for a long time.
Something seemed different about this forest.
I wanted to go inside.
But I was scared.
I don't know how long it's been.
More and more people were leaving.
I don't know if they will come back.
Watching carefully, cautiously,
This forest they gave back to me.
It's so big and all the trees are growing strangely.
But it's safe.
It's safe from the rain and the wind.
The trees are a little hard here.
But there are many branches and forks.
There is a place for me to land.
This will be my home from now on.
I like this forest a lot.

en?
Who is she?
The intruder is here.
My home.
Destroyed by her.
What is she doing?
Why is she looking at her hands and giggling?

She's gone.
But...
my home is gone.
What should I do?

Zihao Lu

I am a worker, who shovels the coal.
Giving all my good time to the factory.
The endless night shifts
Repetitive work day in and day out
The only pleasure left for me of the day
Is smoking secretly
And drink the tea from my wife

How nice it would be to have a bottle of wine!
ah…
If this shit hole closes down
Am I liberated?

Li Wang

They say this place is gonna be famous,
and I'm gonna be the first one in here.

I dressed myself up,

put on a silver wig,
carried a white bag I had saved up for a long time,
my picnic cloth and lips were bright red.

with the help of the camera,
I was going to be dazzling.
These will be my weapons,
Including this place.

I walked in with the spotlight on,
My imaginary audience is cheering,
There was a man yelling at me on the red carpet,
but that was nothing to be afraid of.

The network is giving birth to me,
the minutiae of life is evolving into my body,
I am composed of photos,
I am composed of smiles.
In an empty future spot,
I started the perfect ribbon-cutting ceremony.
